Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of household types on outpatinet utilization by children and adolescents. The analysis was conducted on 2,935 children and Adolescents who responded to Korea Health Panel Study. First, the difference in the average number of outpatinet utilization by children and adolescents among household types was confirmed through ANOVA and Scheffe tests. In order to understand the effect of household types on outpatinet utilization of children and adolescents, the experimental group (single parent households, dual income households) and control group (non-dual income households) were set up and 1:1 matching was made using propensity score matching, and then the negative binominal regression analysis was conducted on the two groups. There was no significant difference in the outpatient utilization between groups of single-parent and non-dual income households. On the other hand, the level of outpatient utilization in dual-income households is statistically significantly lower than that of non-dual income households. The difference is attributed to parent¡¯s time available for children and adolescents due to their economic activities. Therefore, it is suggested that in the process of designing health care policies for children and adolescents, the situation of children spending their daily lives apart from their parents should be carefully considered.
